Macedonian and Modern Greek have almost nothing in common.
Greek will be 0.5% help for you if you mean to learn Macedonian, although the basic sentence structure and some words are similar in Modern Greek and in Macedonian.
Furthermore, since Ancient Greek (such as Latin) contributed to the "birth" of the Indo-European languages, a basic knowledge of languages like Serbian or Bulgarian will be of more help, because of more similarities in words and in grammar, tenses.
Now, have a look at the explanations in English dealing with Macedonian language (grammar…). You may print it and keep it.
Good luck….
I think the people of Macedonia are decendant of the Greeks because the names of people and places there are Greek, the spoken language however may have changed like in many other countries with related languages ,similar but not enough to understand when spoken.
Mate, I don’t want to start an ethnocentric conflict here, but Macedonia was, is and will always be GREEK. What difference? What difference?! Greek is a totally different language from that of Fyrom. What they teach you at your schools is crap mate. It’s a propaganda. Anyone who isn’t prejudiced can see that.
