Non-speakers of the Greek language: Do you like the sound of the Greek language?
I'm wondering if it sounds extremely odd, or if it sounds pretty. I've heard both sides of the story from non-Greeks.

my mum says it’s too loud and sounds like a continuous fight – I’m just used to it … I have noticed I am a louder person now – I like the language it’s strong unlike French/Italian which sound weak to me.
As I am surrounded by Greek daily I find I cannot listen to many English accents anymore (especially southern that say ‘ain’t it!)

It souns pretty but its kinda like german in a gentler way

I don’t personally but that’s because I speak English and it sounds a bit like someone is clearing their throat and shouting a lot to me…

Any foreign language sounds good as long as its delivered by a sensual voice (like a french guy)

I worked for a Greek family for years, and it was pretty until they started fighting! Then it sounded ugly.

I like the sound of it. It think its interesting.

its okay, it doesnt really slide off the tongue. kinda sounds like someone banging on a xylophone. but that’s coming from an italian outsider, so don’t take it personally!

Love the Spartans. Never heard a Grecian speak greek though. Accent sounds Italian to my untrained ear.

I am Greek (25%) but don’t speak the language. My Grandma and her sisters do though and I LOVE listening to them. It’s so pretty!! : )

I like it. =)
But I’m a non-fluent Greek girl, so I’m a bit biased.

I think Greek sounds better in songs that in speech. The tonal variations in spoken Greek, especially when there’s a strong inflection at the end, do sound a little odd. I like how you pronouce the consonant S .
It’s like something between S and SH.

I think it’s pretty intense (in a cool way). English being my mother tounge almost every language sound cool. Lol!

No, it’s a grouchy language.

…for me it sounds beautiful and also very funny !! I like listen to greek songs. I think that way of tongue moving is interesting I like to watch it
My favorite words are this with "th" like "niotho"(feel ?) and "thelo" ( want ?) I like also "tzaki"(fireplace); "oxi"(no) ; "gata"(cat); "glika" (sweet)and "kiriaki"(sunday)
Even so i can’t stand when somebody shouts in greek(especially women) It’s horrible experience for ears

I’m American and my husband is Greek. It’s funny because his family always tells me there are only 2 nationalities – Greeks and non-Greeks.
I enjoy any foreign language but it’s hard when people speak foreign right in front of you as if you don’t exist. That’s what I don’t like.

I’ve personally only heard a few words–it’s a pretty cool language.
Take care.

I like the sound of it — I think it sounds pretty sexy!

The sounds of any language depend greatly on who’s speaking it. If the voice is clear and soothing and sensual and it is reading say poetry with meter and rhyme the sounds are great. Burton doing Shakespeare for example make English sound delicate, elegant and sensual.
