I have a question about a self-study course in the Greek language….?

I found a self-study book to learn the Greek language, but the book is from the 60's. I heard that Greek underwent a change during the 70's, I believe, and so was wondering, aside from a few obvious anachronisms, if I used this book to learn Greek and went over to Greece, would I be understood and be able to understand others?

Hi there!
I would strongly recommend you not to use any learning material that is so old. Languages are , for lack of a better word, "living beings" and are changing constantly. Of course that the base is the same but you will run the risk of learning too many obsolete words and expressions.
I know that because it happened to me when I learned Hebrew: I used a very old book and when I arrived in Israel using the words and expressions I had learned, people looked, to say the least, amused.
There are really great materials online for you to learn any language. You won’t even have to spend a penny.
One such material I use (there is no Greek though) is http://www.learn-with-youtube.blogspot.com . The blogger there is constantly updating so I think it is worth checking now and again for Greek.
Good luck!
