How hard is Greek to learn?
How hard is it to learn greek? Comparisons would be nice (harder than spanish, easier than japanese, etc.). also, my second question is what's the best online resource for learning it that you've seen?
i have a very good english vocabulary (despite being 14 years old) and i'm a native english speaker. in fact, one reason greek interests me is because i respect the greek influence on english.

i think its great that you have an interest in learning greek.. its a beautiful language! i must admit, it is quite difficult.. but knowing both greek and english has helped me with learning spanish (studying for 5 years now). to give you a comparison, i would say it is harder than spanish because spanish is a very phonetic language, while greek isnt as much.. spanish was also easier for me to pick up because i was already familiar with the idea of verb tenses, etc.. and it uses mostly the same letters as the english language.. and greek obviously does not. i cant really compare it to any other languages because these are the only ones i am familiar with.
and i agree that kypros.org offers an excellent (and free!) learning tool.. my cousin showed it to me and has been using it for about a year now.
good luck with everything (:

My babysitter who has learned pretty good Spanish, French and German says it’s harder than any of them.
I would guess easier than Japanese though, since it is more closely related to English and if you have a good vocabluary in English a lot of the words will be recognizable.

I began to learn it a few years ago online, and I thought it was just the same as languages that use our same alphabet…even though you are learning a different alphabet. It’s almost easier in a way, because it’s a whole new way of thinking, therefore you don’t confuse yourself with english letters while trying to learn greek.
http://www.kypros.org is the site I used….it’s great because there are audio lessons, so you’re sure you are saying things correctly….but there are also written lessons to go with the audio, so you have the full package.
In fact, thank you for posting this question….I think I am going to resume my Greek lessons!
