Where are the influences of Ancient Greek philosophy most apparent in modern Western religions? I'm not talking about the Olympian gods. I'm wondering if the writings of Plato and Aristotle, etc., influenced any of the early arbiters of opinion in religious circles.

I want to learn to read and speak ANCIENT Greek. Yes, very much emphasis on ancient. I'm fascinated by the complexity of the individual words they used, because the definitions are so much stronger than English words.
Does any one know of a web site or some other source (that you don't have to pay for) that teaches ancient Greek? I would spend the money on it if I had it floating around but bills come first.
Any one know of something like that?
I read that "butterfly" is "psyche" in Ancient Greek, which would work well into the title of a story I'm working on, since it also can mean soul or mind. Can anyone give me a Ancient Greek translation for "Flight of the butterfly," preferably using "psyche?" Also, I would like it in Roman letters.
In addition, could I get a translation of "memories?"
I was thinking maybe I could start with the Titans. And then learn my way around each God and Goddess. And after I've learned about every one of them, I learn the family tree and after that the myths.
By the way, does watching Clash of the Gods help me in any way? I've learned a few helpful things towards the family tree.
And...is Apollo also the God of the Sun? I don't know I'm confused about that.
Hi. OK well i heard this quote from CSI:NY and really liked it. so i wanted to know its translation in greek...

Okay, so my Yia yai is Greek. She came over from Greece when she was 10 years old. When she and my papou try and get my attention, they always say "Hey Modae!" (If that's even how you spell it) I was just wondering what that means? Thanks ahead for anyone who can tell me!
I get the impression people tend to learn Latin first, then Greek. But Greek culture came first. What do you think is the wisest to begin with, assuming interest-level is equal?
Or is it something else?
I am lost in this day of gadgetry. Palms, i pods, etc. Are these what you call PDAs? What other gadgets are there? I would lilke to get more info and decide what gadgets can do what things for me. Problem is when I ask people, they all talk greek...(sorry if that's not politically correct)
Only two answers and I am not satisfied. I honestly want to know more about gadgets but everyone starts the movie at the middle and I cannot tell what has happened at the start. Are there no gadgetry geeks around to help me keep up with technology?
Yaldabaoth is the name of demiurgus mentioned in Apocryphon of John, I've been wondering what is the original greek script of this word. The name literally means "Children of Void"
I am wanting to get a tattoo of my daughters name Imogen and I want to have it written in greek, is there a direct translation for the name and if so, could you please tell me what greek characters I can use to make her name up!? Thanks

Hebrew = Not Aramaic. Duh.
And you're wrong. Of the oldest remaining texts, SOME are written in greek, and SOME are written in Hebrew. None are written in both.
Learn your lessons before challenging this kid to a duel, son.
Oliver, please in greek alphabet thanks
babelfish doesn't write me Oliver in greek
I have researced this already, but I am curious about something. The greek word Aer means
1. the air, particularly the lower and denser air as distinguished from the higher and rarer air
2. the atmospheric region
However the original word that Aer is derived from is ajhvr Origin : from aemi (to breathe unconsciously, i.e. respire; by analogy, to blow)
How did they get the word Aer from Aemi and have it mean something completely different? Or is is like our English where one word can have multiple meanings? If so, how would you know what meaning is being represented?
I'm looking for someone who knows how to speak and write in traditional Greek lettering so I can have this saying translated for a memorial tattoo. The saying is: If you're going to be dumb, then you better be tough. And if there's anyway to relay how it would be spoken that would be awesome too!
Thanks Alyssa

Well I'm half Greek, but I don't speak the language. I don't plan on becoming fluent in Greek right now, but I'd like to learn a few phrases. So I need to know how to pronounce Greek letters. How do you pronounce the vowels? And are there any consonants that have a different pronunciation? Oh and if you want you can tell me a few phrases.
Actually I am well aware that Greek has a different alphabet. I can't read Greek. So I meant words and phrases that would be written in our alphabet so I can read them.
So far I've only been dabbling. As an English and Arabic speaker, I don't find it that difficult. However, I haven't gone into the complex articles or genders yet. So maybe that's why.
Is it possible to gain somewhat fluency in 1 year of heavy study and daily use? I'm doing it for travel, and a girl.
